Description

San Antonio Pets Alive!

Support the nonprofit on National Dog Day during a party at Hops & Hounds. Drink specials from Truly Hard Seltzer and Dogfish Head are available, with $2 from each purchase going toward San Antonio Pets Alive! There’s also a dog talent show planned and live music.

San Antonio Pets Alive! rescues dogs and cats from euthanasia. Established in 2011, the organization has saved the lives of more than 56,000 pets. Right now, they have several pups in urgent need of foster or forever homes. Those who can’t adopt or foster can help in other ways, including through monetary donations, broken down car donations, volunteering or purchasing items on the nonprofit’s Amazon wish list. Check out the SA Pets Alive Instagram for the most up to date information.

 SNIPSA

Founded by veterinarians and animal lovers, SNIPSA works to support homeless and abandoned dogs in San Antonio and the surrounding area. The organizations doesn’t have a shelter so it relies on dedicated volunteers to foster pets in need. SNIPSA provides necessary medical care for foster animals and also provides spay/neuter services to underserved areas in an effort to help prevent pet overpopulation. Not up for fostering? There are lots of other ways to help. Make a donation in honor of a pet that has passed away and they’ll share your pet’s name on a tribute list on their website. You can also sponsor a rescue, take a puppy yoga class with Mobile Om (the next one is Sept. 16) and more.

 San Antonio Humane Society

This no-kill shelter has plenty of cute rescue dogs in need of adopting or fostering. San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) also participates in the national Clear the Shelters program on Sept. 19. On that day, spin the SAHS adoption wheel for the chance to win a discount on adoption fees or other prizes. For those not ready to take a pup home, there are plenty of other ways to help. Donate a car, subscribe as a monthly donor (think of it like you think of that monthly Netflix payment) or honor a pet that has died by purchasing a tribute tag or memorial brick. There are also volunteer opportunities and the chance to sponsor a dog through the Guardian Angel program.

 Animal Defense League of Texas

Animal Defense League of Texas is San Antonio’s largest and longest established no-kill pet shelters. The nonprofit is also participating in the Clear the Shelters event. Through Sept. 19, all dogs that are six months or older will have adoption fees waived. Monetary donations made during the event also will be doubled with matching funds. If you miss the event, tune in on Instagram to see the North Park Subaru pet of the week. Those pets have their adoption fees covered by the car dealership when they are placed in a home. For those who’d rather give than adopt, consider shopping the nonprofit’s Amazon urgent needs wishlist, Supporters can also sponsor a dog, make a tribute donation or volunteer.

 Helotes Humane Society

Founded in 2008, Helotes Humane Society is a nonprofit that’s dedicated to taking in unwanted dogs in Helotes and San Antonio. It administers necessary medical treatment and works to get dogs ready for adoption. Adopt or foster a dog in need or get involved by shopping or volunteering at its Second Chances Thrift Shop, which is located just in front of the Helotes Dog Park. Every purchase made there supports pets in need. Monetary donations, tribute donations and volunteer opportunities also exist.
